Our Biotechnology

The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has decided to ban the export of waste plastic by 01 July 2021 to show the increasing concern in Australia about plastic pollution that will harm to our human health and the environment. Public hospital and government health department will also outline the new procurement policies and standards that mandate the purchase of biomedical products that made with recycled plastic or biodegradable plastic in order to reduce plastic contamination problem in Australia. Ecopha BIO will have research collaboration with local university and industry partners in WA to work on the manufacturing of biomedical products such as single-use syringes or biodegradable face mask from recycled plastic or biodegradable plastic. Therefore, Ecopha BIO will plan to start an eco-friendly manufacturing business in Australia using recycled plastic material and bioplastic material to produce single-use or disposable biomedical products in the near future. We also will establish our new R&D Centre in Perth dedicated to developing new technologies that will complement and enrich our biomedical product portfolio.

Eco-friendly PHA Bioplastics

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) is a polyester which being fully biodegradable and it is biologically synthesized by microorganism from fermentation of renewable resources such as sugar and plant oils (e.g. palm oil, canola oil, cottonseed oil, etc.).

PHA is synthesized by converting acetyl-CoA which is formed through ẞ-oxidation pathway into acetoacetyl-CoA which is then reduce to (R)-3-hydroxybutyryl-CoA and finally polymerize into PHA.

PHA is capable of being used to fabricate variety of everyday products ranging from food packaging, photographic material, textile fibers, agricultural, medical uses such as drug delivery system, implants, non-woven patches and tissue scaffolding.

PHA is relatively cost-effective and environmental friendly method to ensure our present and future live in a smarter materials world.
